The Columbia Gorge chapter had five members attend the annual convention in Astoria, and all enjoyed learning about forestry and fishery topics.  One of the reasons many of us like our membership in OWA is the socialization aspect of the group, especially at state convention where everyone treats you like friends.  Our chapter has about 20 members and “interested” participants, and we meet about every other month at a restaurant in The Dalles for a meal and our business meeting, another wonderful opportunity to enjoy each others’ company.  We look forward to bringing our auction items to Albany for the annual auction and dinner!

Locally, our chapter helps sponsor the annual Bull Tour of livestock production operations in the region, and offers a scholarship to local high school graduates.  We also offer a scholarship to a teacher in the gorge to attend Summer Agriculture Institute.  Several members will be presenting the Ag in the Classroom Apples to Oregon literacy project in local classrooms this spring.  We will launch a new fundraiser for our chapter by hosting an ice-cream-and-fruit-cobbler stand at Dufur Vintage Days Saturday, August 11.
