Outdoor Farm Indoor Farm selected as the featured 2025 Literacy Project book
Oregon Agriculture in the Classroom is excited to announce their featured 2025 Literacy Project book, Outdoor Farm, Indoor Farm by Lindsay Metcalf. Join two children as they explore the inner workings of an outdoor farm and an indoor farm. They’ll see how a variety of amazing machinery like tractors and drones along with innovative farming techniques yield the wonderful food we all love to enjoy. This story is wonderfully
illustrated throughout, displaying how art, agriculture, and technology interweave to tell the story of our food system.
How the Literacy Project Works
Oregon Agriculture in the Classroom provides training for volunteers who connect with local kindergarten through fourth grade classrooms to set up time to visit, read, and lead a short activity with students. Start to finish, the program takes 30-45 minutes. Reading sessions may start any time after March 16th and run through the end of the school year. The materials are prepared for volunteers, and following the visit, each classroom receives a copy of the book. This program is available at no cost to volunteers or classrooms.
Get Involved!
Oregon AITC staff will host a training session for volunteers at the annual Oregon Women for Agriculture Convention in Salem. All members are invited to attend and learn more about the project. If you are interested in signing up to become a volunteer, visit the Oregon AITC website, give us a call, or send us an email.
Oregon Agriculture in the Classroom is also seeking sponsorships for the 2025 Literacy Project. Sponsors of the program will be recognized on the website, social media, and in the corresponding activity materials. For more information, contact Jade Davidson, Executive Director.
We look forward to partnering with you to promote knowledge of Oregon agriculture among today’s young readers!
