Marion-Clackamas Summer Update
The Marion-Clackamas chapter kicked off summer with a social in June held at the McNary Golf Course Restaurant in Keizer.
We had many members attend auction and it was a fantastic evening. Kudos to all OWA members who volunteered their time and talents to make it another successful fundraiser!
A few of our members volunteered at the Oregon Women for Agriculture’s exhibit at Antique Powerland Museum’s Family Fun Day on May 19th. While there was as many kids in attendance we planned for, we still had a great time talking with kids and their parents about Oregon agriculture. We had a number of interactive activities for kids including ice cream in a bag, germination in a bag, and a tactile seed identification test. We had our 3 videos looping on a TV as well as displays of products from hazelnuts, grass seed, cattle, nursery, peppermint, and sheep, plus big visual posters talking about the crops grown in our state and the efficiency of the modern farmer.
Our Oregon Trail Farms guide was distributed in the Statesman Journal for the 2018 season. We have 14 farm stands in the guide again this year. This is our biggest fundraiser of the season and helps get the word out about local farms to visit. Please follow us on Facebook @OregonTrailFarms or visit www.oregontrailfarms.com.
We increased the amount of our scholarship from $500 to $1,000 this year. We received a number of applications for our scholarship and will be awarding it soon to a student from Marion or Clackamas county.
Our next meeting will not be until September as we break for summer. We are looking forward to helping at the state fair and wish everyone a very safe, bountiful harvest!
